Methodology

Last updated November 4, 2026

Every number on this site is either sourced or labelled as an estimate. This page explains the difference.

1. Primary sources first

For electrical and safety topics we start with the manufacturer's installation manual, the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) where it applies, and local building-department guidance. We link the exact document, not a summary of it.

2. Cost models show their inputs

Running-cost estimates use four visible inputs: heater or chiller kilowatts, hours of use, duty cycle, and the electricity rate. Our calculator exposes all four so you can replace them with your own numbers. We do not present a single "average cost" as if it were a quote.

3. Product selection

We compare formats and specifications, not press releases. A product earns a recommendation when it meets a defined constraint (for example, a sauna that fits a 7-foot ceiling, or a chiller that holds 39°F in a 90°F garage). We disclose affiliate relationships on every page.

4. What we have not tested

We do not own every product we write about. When a claim comes from the manufacturer or from owner reports, we say so. When we have not tested a unit, we do not imply that we have.

5. Corrections

If a source changes or a reader finds an error, we update the article and the "last updated" date. Email contact@dipandheat.comwith the page and the correction.
